Professional and Impartial
When a serious concern, allegation, complaint or incident arises, having an appropriately independent and thorough investigation can help providers establish the facts, identify learning and determine what action may be required.
Our experienced consultants provide a professional and impartial approach, ensuring investigations are fair, evidence-based, clearly documented and focused on safeguarding and good practice.

Children’s home providers may require an independent investigator where the nature or seriousness of a concern means that additional impartiality and scrutiny are needed.
Helping Hands Care and Consultancy can provide independent investigations for children’s homes involving a range of issues, including:
Each investigation is tailored to the circumstances and agreed terms of reference.

We also provide independent investigation services for supported accommodation providers working with young people.
An independent investigation can provide additional assurance where there are concerns relating to safeguarding, staff conduct, management practice, complaints or the quality of support being provided.
Our consultants can work with Directors, Registered Service Managers, Nominated Individuals and senior leadership teams to establish the relevant facts and provide clear, objective findings.
At the beginning of an investigation, we work with you to establish the scope and terms of reference.
Depending on the nature of the investigation, the process may involve reviewing relevant documentation and records, conducting interviews, considering policies and procedures, examining available evidence and establishing a clear chronology of events. Evidence is considered objectively, with findings based on the information available rather than assumptions.
Once the investigation has been completed, you will receive a clear and comprehensive independent investigation report setting out the evidence considered, findings and conclusions.
Where appropriate and within the agreed scope, the report may also identify areas of learning or recommendations for improvement.
There are circumstances where asking someone within your own organisation to investigate may create actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
Commissioning an external investigator can provide greater independence and objectivity. It can also give senior leaders and providers additional assurance that concerns have been examined thoroughly and fairly.
An independent investigation can also support effective governance and demonstrate to Ofsted that serious concerns are being taken seriously and appropriately scrutinised.
An effective investigation should do more than establish what happened.
Where concerns highlight weaknesses in practice, management oversight, safeguarding arrangements or organisational systems, it is important that providers understand the learning and take appropriate action.
Helping Hands Care and Consultancy takes a constructive and evidence-led approach, helping providers understand the circumstances surrounding an incident or concern and identify opportunities to strengthen practice.
Where further support is required following an investigation, our wider children’s social care consultancy services can assist with areas such as safeguarding, quality assurance, policies and procedures, management oversight and Ofsted readiness.

Helping Hands Care and Consultancy specialises in supporting children’s homes, supported accommodation services and organisations working with children and young people.
Our independent investigation service provides providers with access to experienced external professionals who understand the importance of safeguarding, regulatory expectations, good governance and fair investigative processes.
We recognise that investigations can involve sensitive and complex circumstances. Our approach is professional, impartial, proportionate and confidential, with a focus on establishing the facts and providing the provider with a clear and useful outcome.
